Don’t Neglect Productive Fitness!

Nowadays it is a rat race when it comes to the big bad world out there – we are always rushing to office, slogging to meet deadlines, staying awake till wee hours to complete reports, and also balancing the home front. We strive to be professionally fit by going to the office on time and maintaining a perfect work record but ignore the aspect of being productively fit by sleeping less and leading an erratic lifestyle.
How has being “productively fit” helped me?
Being productively fit is actually more essential as I am now able to sleep better, reach office on time, and finish the same amount of work in less time. My nutritionist Sangeeta Malik has played a crucial role in helping to reduce my weight, while the RunXtreme prepared me for long runs. You don’t have to put in long hours at the gym or enroll in a health club – a simple run is sufficient to keep you fit! It isn’t just about exercise; when you run in the park or around the block it helps to vent out frustrations, aids in meditating, works wonders when it comes to organizing thoughts, and so on. To put it in a nutshell, running makes you physically and mentally fitter and I have personally experienced it.
Why you need rest?
At times you feel that you have no choice but to work long hours during the week. But that is a flawed perception – if you wish to remain creative and productive, while giving the best to your job, you should learn when it is time to back off. It is about being tuned in to what your body needs and knowing that it is okay to deliver it. Your body needs a good night’s sleep for at least 7 hours, so it can recover and you wake up fresh and well-rested the next day.
Exercising for being productively fitter
Do you feel you don’t have enough time to walk a certain distance in the morning or go on a run? Rest assured, I too felt that way some months back. But I realized that if an activity helped me to boost productivity and efficiency, it is a part of job as well. So when you exercise, your stress levels reduce, which makes you healthier than before. Running increases energy levels and it is a great way to beat mid-morning or mid-afternoon slumps. Split your target exercise time into two sessions and do one just before each lull. It will get your brain working again and stop you from experiencing the lack of productivity that comes with the slump. If you have a tight schedule, you can squeeze in just 15 minutes of running every day – that will make a huge difference!
Looking after your health and fitness is of paramount importance – the more exhausted you are, the more your professional and personal life suffers. And if you take inspiration from me and run a marathon, don’t be afraid of failure – watching your co-runners ahead of you is a huge blow to your confidence, which can affect your speed, but it is all a part of the process, so don’t give up!
